Jobbsprånget är Sveriges största praktikprogram för nyanlända akademiker och vi på Volkswagen Group Sverige är stolta över att vara med och göra skillnad på arbetsmarknaden. Under hösten/vintern 2023 tog vi emot två praktikanter, varav Erin Ting Chun Yau var en av dem.

Det var ett initiativ som startades på HR-avdelningen och fångades upp av Marcus Akmal, chef på Group Fleet. Han såg möjligheten i att två av sina anställda skulle få chans att utveckla sina ledaregenskaper och både Ali Souihi och Matias Rikander antog uppdraget som handledare. Genom att välkomna nyanlända talanger med akademisk kompetens har vi som företag chans att göra skillnad! Vi har fått en pratstund med Erin som berättar om sin praktik och vad han tar med sig i sin framtida karriär.

Erin, tell us about your internship
– My internship at VGS was an amazing experience. I met many nice and helpful colleagues. They were patient to teach me the daily operation in VGS. When I had difficulties in my tasks, they taught me step by step and helped me complete. The internship provided me with a nice opportunity to go through the working culture in Sweden. The internship experience was precious, and I would recommend people participating in the internship program at VGS. Also, I really like the cafeteria in the company, there are many options I can choose every day!

What were the main day-to-day responsibilities involved in this internship?
– During my internship, I used to assist my manager Ali, Matias and my teammates in Group Fleet for daily operations, such as data validation and analysis, kundkort and framework agreement checking. Sometimes I monitored the dashboards and reports in Qlik Sense to investigate the monthly sales in different models.

What have you gained from the internship and what have you contributed?
– In this internship, I got an insight into the automotive industry in Sweden. VGS is a part of Volkswagen Group, now I know more about the structure and organization in such a large company. Also, at VGS, there are different brands I was required to support. From the operations in different brands and Group Fleet itself, I understand how an automotive industry operates.

In the team Group Fleet, as the operation is changing from dealership to direct sales, the team required to negotiate with different customers in direct sales. There were administrative and data analysis tasks I assisted during the internship. I tried to investigate the sales amount between dealership and direct sales and compare the sales difference in different models.

Have you faced any challenges?
– In VGS, most of my colleagues are Swedish. Therefore, they usually communicated in Swedish. Also, documents are all written in Swedish. Even though I learnt Swedish for a few years, I could not understand in a quick way and required looking up the dictionary when there were some Swedish words I did not understand.

According to you, what is the best thing about working at Volkswagen Group Sverige?
– The best thing about working at VGS is that I could meet a lot of nice and helpful people, and enrich my experience working in Sweden. This internship is my first job (internship) in Sweden. I believe that this opportunity would provide me with a good stepstone for developing my career in Sweden. Working at VGS was amazing and I would like to join VGS in the future.

Erin hade som tidigare nämnt Ali som handledare under praktiken och även han har en positiv bild av perioden och vad den har bidragit till;
– Det har varit en positiv erfarenhet ur många perspektiv! För min egen, företagets och praktikanternas utveckling. Erin har blivit erbjuden ett jobb på ett annat företag där han har haft mig som referens. Det känns fint att vi är med och försöker hjälpa människor ut i arbetslivet! Jag uppskattar att min chef ställde frågan och att jag på så sätt fick vara en del av rekryteringen och utveckla mina egna ledaregenskaper. Det har varit en lärorik process och den här erfarenheten kan förhoppningsvis inspirera andra avdelningar på företaget att göra detsamma!
